JOIN CINDY FOR THE JOURNEY OF A LIFETIME!
”TEAM IN TRAINING” HITS NEW YORK CITY NOVEMBER 4, 2001
Dear Family, Friends, and Colleagues: Sunday, November 4, 2001 is going to be an incredible day. Incredible, because I’m going to do something I’ve always dreamed of doing and never thought I would…run a marathon! This won’t be just any marathon though, and that’s what will make this day truly incredible. I’ll be running 26.2 miles through the streets of New York City, side-by-side and sneaker-to-sneaker with thousands of other runners as part of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s “Team in Training” (TNT) program. TNT is a comprehensive, endurance-training program for runners, walkers, cyclists, triathletes and mountain bikers to benefit The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. The goal of TNT is to increase funding to support the Society's mission while promoting fitness and healthy lifestyles. Leukemia and lymphoma are cancers that affect blood-forming and infection-fighting organs like bone marrow, lymph nodes, and the spleen. Millions of abnormal white blood cells accumulate, preventing production of normal cells. Lymphoma is now the fastest growing cancer in the country. There is no known way to prevent these diseases, but they can often be treated effectively. The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society has supported nearly every major research breakthrough in the field, and also provides patient and family education and services. 75% of all donations go DIRECTLY TO RESEARCH, a testament to their commitment to finding a cure. And that’s why I want to support TNT, and why I’m reaching out to you. Together, I believe we can make an impact and contribute to the important, life-affirming mission of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. While I’m enduring my training, and eventually running through the streets of New York City in just a few months, I’ll be thinking about people like Mick Ripley and June Green…people in my life who fought for their own lives due to the ravages of blood-related cancers. I’ll also be thinking of Brett Rosen, the honorary patient of TNTs North Jersey chapter, who was diagnosed with Leukemia on June 8, 1995 at the age of 8. He completed treatment and maintenance in August of 1998 and has remained in remission for the last three years. I’ll also be thinking of each of you who sponsored me and, with your generous love and support, helped me cross the finish line. Why me? Why now? Why this? Because I’ve always wanted to put myself to the test. To take on the spiritual lessons, the mental battle, and the physical challenge of such an athletic feat. Because the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society makes it possible for me to run and help others at the same time by training, coaching, and encouraging me. Let’s face it…preparing for the marathon (and eventually completing it!) is really nothing compared to what Mick, June, and Brett had to endure with chemotherapy, hospitalization, and the like. While my Uncle (Mick) and my dear friend (June) have lost their respective battles with cancer, Brett is someone who encourages us to continue with hope in the fight against this terrible disease. I write to you to ask for your help, so that together, we can do something positive to help find a cure. This year, each TNT member who is participating in the NYC Marathon has committed to try and raise at least $2,500 to help continue the successful research conducted by the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. And while I can take care of the running, I need your help in reaching my pledge goal. By donating, you will be a part of MY “Team in Training” and I will take your spirit with me through the five boroughs of New York City to meet this challenge. No matter how much or how little you can give, it all adds up. Please click-on the DONATE tab on the left to find out how you can contribute to this very important cause. I thank you in advance with heartfelt gratitude from Brett, myself, and countless others.
